Short Story #113

Long lasting love.

We where all there. About twenty to thirty couples standing on the dance floor. With a slow song playing over the loud speakers the DJ had called all of the couples to the center of the dance floor to celebrate marriage together. As the song went on he would announce that only couples that have been married for a certain number of years stay on the dance floor. Over time the years increased until myself along with many others had been removed. Finally the second to the last couple had been stripped away revealing the final two people left standing there in the center of us all. These two, married for over fifty years stood there and danced in front of me in what was one of the most touching moments I have ever experienced at a wedding.

Elements of this story.

Classic: The way they danced just screamed of the life they live. The music was different in their earlier years, society was on a different trajectory, and time moved at a tenth of the speed it does now. They grew up in a time when this was the way you danced and the way you acted. They are original.

The look: You can measure the love one has for another by just one look. What she is thinking is for her to know and us to wonder.

Resting of the hand: The position of his hand serves as a foundation for her hand to rest and also as a clear indicator of his dedication to support her. He will carry the weight of her hand so she does not have to.

Thank you so much for taking the time to open yourself up to this short story. As always, it is my intention to help show others there is so much more to just liking a photo. It's important that we find pieces of ourselves in others photographs.
