Just before the kiss.
When it comes to story telling, a kiss is best photographed a half of a second prior. When the lips touch you are left with one set of lips, closed eyes and very hard to read facial expressions. If you step back a half of a second you will be given the photo above. It is in that short amount of time that thoughts and emotions are present. One of you have made the recognizable gesture of sticking out the chin and puckering the lips, the signal that screams "get over here and kiss me". The other responds by beginning to move their lips forward followed by the rest of their body. Right at this moment thoughts and emotions begin to flood the brain, memories from your past, the outline of their face you could recognize blindfolded, the very thought of how lucky you are that this person is yours to kiss. Lips still leading your body you go into autopilot as they course towards each others. Trusting your body to guide you, everything begins to darken down as your eyelids close. Click! Theres my photo!
Elements of this story
Pre social media duck lips: I have no idea why we stick them out as far as we do but it comes as natural as breathing. Besides these instances, when was the last time you made a funny face and a beautiful person decides to reward you by planting one right on your lips? For some reason this face works and I naturally raise my camera when I see it.
Mmmmm Beer: Studies show that mild intoxication improves passion. You would be crazy to think that cup of alcohol has no reason in this frame.
Hold the phone, literally: Check out the grip she has on that phone. We lose control of ourselves when caught up in a moment this passionate and the contraction of her hand is a clear signal that she knows the scale of this event soon to take place.
Thank you so much for taking the time to open yourself up to this short story. As always, it is my intention to help show others there is so much more to just liking a photo. Its important that we find pieces of ourselves in others photographs.
